“Uncle Harry is so sad. I wish I could help him.” Teddy is looking at Andromeda with large amber eyes and she finds herself melting a little.
“Don´t worry Teddy. Harry is a grown up, he will find a way to solve his problems”
“But why is Uncle Draco so against a small celebration? It would mean so much to Uncle Harry and well we don´t have to invite strange people. We all know Draco and his problems and no one would make fun of him.”
Andromeda sighs a little. “See Teddy, the celebrations that I remember and that I read about in the papers during the years, have told me a lot about Draco's troubles.”
“Tell me?”
“Christmas parties have always been a lavish affair at the Malfoys. Draco has grown up with many people always scrutinizing. Especially at these parties.”
“Whats scrutinizing?”
“It means to examine or observe with great care; inspect critically. If Draco didn´t look presentable or wasn´t perfect in the eyes of the guests, Lucius and Narcissa would hear about it, and that in great detail. Because as the Malfoy heir he had to be perfect.”
“Really? Aunt Narcissa, doesn´t seem to be that strict?”
“See Teddy, you know that something bad happened and that Uncle Harry made sure that we all could live in peace right?”
“Yes that is why my dad and mum are not here.”
“Yes, and because Aunt Narcissa almost lost Draco then, she sees a lot of things differently than she did back then.”
“And Draco still thinks his mum would think he needs to be perfect? But that is stupid!” Teddy makes his standpoint clear, and even though it clearly is not right Andromeda laughs a little. But she collects herself.
“You see, the Manor was beautiful too in those days, the tree in the entrance hall was huge and all of the lights sparkled and shone. Every fireplace was covered in garlandsand a huge wreath hung above them. I collected more than one article from the Daily Prophet thinking that Narcissa had outdone herself. It was a few of the glimpses that I could get of her life.”
“So maybe we can combine the beautiful aspects of those parties, but just do them in our family? I mean Uncle Harry wants to celebrate Christmas with Aunt Narcissa and Draco and us, and Draco is afraid of having to be perfect, so can`t we celebrate here just us and Aunt Narcissa decorates as beautifully as she did back then?”
“Oh Teddy that would be such a wonderful idea. But our house is smaller than the Manor and Draco is afraid of leaving his home.”
“I don´t care about a big tree, just a tree that sparkles. And I want Uncle Draco to stop being afraid, that we don´t love him.” Teddy is like a crup with a bone so settled on the idea of a Christmas celebration for their family, Andromeda wonders what is going on in that determined little head.
