“Please please please! Oh come on Cousin, the snow is wonderful I want to build a snowman. Uncle Harry come on!”
Harry laughs and gives in. “Come on Draco, Teddy is right, the weather is wonderful and I want to play too.” Draco laughs with him, and it warms Harry to hear the sound. A rich warm laughter that comes right from the heart. Draco still wears the mask, but he doesn´t shy away from Harry's looks any longer. And to see that mouth curved in a smile does funny things to Harry's insides.
Long talks in front of the fireplace have wrought a bond that Harry wants to give up never again. It feels like family, like belonging somewhere. Draco never talks about the attack but he has told him about the lonely hours in France where the healers worked long at giving him his sight back, and about the books that he had as company, afraid of showing his face to anybody. Not even his mother has seen him without the mask and Draco confesses that he doesn´t own a mirror any longer in his rooms. He puts the mask on after cleaning his teeth and only takes it off after the day is done. He doesn´t even feel for the scars. Too afraid of the ridges and burns he might encounter.
“I know I am a coward, but to be reminded of my sins every day, is too much for me. I know this is my punishment and I bear it.”
Harry just took Draco's hand.
“I think you suffered enough, and you have sinned not more or less than any of us did during the war. But I won´t push. As long as you let me I am here and I am going nowhere.”
“Stubborn Gryffindor.”
“As if you'd have me any other way.” Harry knows the smile he gave Draco has probably given him away but he hasn't voiced his feelings. It is too soon. Draco is still too skitish.
“Earth to Harry! Look what we have built already!” Draco pulls him from his thoughts.
Harry gapes at the sight in front of him. Draco has rebuilt the hogwarts train, it looks wonderful, and Teddy is laughingly running around it. Harry smiles, someone who rememebers the joy of the Trainride, who can recall the facination of the Hogwarts Express – someone like that is someone he can love.
“Uncle Harry isn´t that absolutly beautiful?” Teddy beams at him and Harry only has eyes for Draco who smiles at him, still behind the mask but his eyes so much happier than before.
“Yes it is.”
